The company ran innovation contests among its own employees. The whole cycle — call for entries, registration, judging, results — was handled with printed forms and records kept by hand.

Where it jammed

At registration. Every participant retyped details the company already held about them, and every capture error carried through to the judging stage, where it was expensive to fix.

Identity as the source of truth

I integrated the application with the company’s identity provider over OAuth. On registration, participant details are pulled from there instead of being asked for again. There is no longer a second copy of employee information that can contradict the first.

Result

Calls, judging and results all happen in one system. Paper left the process, and with it the manual transcription between stages.
